Central Nodal Officer of Ministry Jal Shakti reviewed the activities and progress of Jal Shakti Abhiyan (Catch the Rain-2023) under Kamrup District. Kamrup, Amingaon, 8th June: A meeting on Jal Shakti Abhiyan under the theme "Catch the Rain, Where It Falls, When It Falls, Harvest Rainfall" was held at the Conference Hall, Integrated Deputy Commissioner Office, Kamrup under the chairmanship of Nitin Khade, Joint Secretary, Government of India, Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development and Central Nodal Officer for Kamrup District for this mission. The meeting was also attended by Rajesh Kumar Verma, Scientist-D and Technical Officer, Central Ground Water Board regarding Jal Shakti Abhiyan, Catch the Rain 2023.
It may be mentioned that Ministry of Jal Shakti is taking up a nation-wide campaign “Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain” (JSA:CTR) focusing on saving and conserving rainwater with the theme “Source sustainability for drinking water” from 04 March 2023 to 30 November 2023 in the pre-monsoon and monsoon periods of 2023. In this year key focus of JSA:CTR - 2023 is on ensuring source sustainability in 150 water stressed district of country, identified by Jal Jeevan Mission. The primary objective of this campaign is to conserve water, minimize wastage, and ensure a more equitable distribution of water resources, both within and across states.
The representatives of various Department like Central Ground Water Board, Guwahati, District Rural Development Agency, Zilla Parishad, Kamrup, Public Health Engineering Department, Agriculture, Fishery, Irrigation, Municipality Board, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Social Forestry and Soil Conservation under Kamrup District also attended the meeting.
A wide range of discussion on extraction of ground water and creation of water recharge structures for sustainable water management, rain water harvesting were also discussed elaborately in the meeting. The chairperson of the meeting stressed on the proper water management so that the problem of water scarcity may not arise in the district. In this aspect he said that proper recharge of water storage should be given importance by all the Departments so that the water from such storages can be utilized during the lean period also. All the water sources created under Jal Jeevan Mission must be supported with necessary recharge mechanisms, so that the elaborate infrastructure created under the scheme remains durable. Appreciating the work of Amrit Sarovars, he highlighted various activities that could be carried out for sustainability of water.
In the meeting all related department’s activities and progress were also reviewed. The chairman briefed about various activities that needs to be taken up for water source sustainability.
Later on the central team also visited Rangmahal Public Water Supply System where the chairman of the team was briefed by the concerned officials of the district about the functionality of the scheme.
